Overview

Richard A. Brown focuses his practice on the defense of mass tort litigation, with particular emphasis on designing and implementing coordinated national defense strategies for companies in toxic and mass tort. Richard currently leads the national representations of multiple defendants. As an integral part of his practice, Richard has also been at the forefront of designing creative alternative fee arrangements to provide clients with excellent service and predictable cost structures. In this capacity, he has represented a wide array of clients, ranging from large Fortune 100 companies to small businesses in state and federal courts. Richard’s notable engagements include serving as national trial and discovery counsel for several manufacturers and premises owners.

Richard’s practice spans all phases of the litigation lifecycle, from inception through discovery and ultimately to trial. He has taken and defended hundreds of fact and expert witness depositions, briefed and argued complex motions, as well as successfully mediated cases in courts across the country. He is known for his practical and business-minded approach to the law, for being a fierce negotiator, and for having driven many favorable and prominent settlements on behalf of his clients.

In addition to his mass tort experience, Richard has been heavily involved in shaping the emerging medical cannabis market in Mississippi. He has offered counsel on regulatory issues, as well as guidance on corporate entity formation and governance, licensing matters, and general liability issues.

Richard received his law degree from Mississippi College School of Law; a Master of Business Administration from Loyola University (International Business concentration); and a Business Arts degree from Louisiana Tech University (Political Science Major). He is a Martindale-Hubbell “AV” rated attorney – a peer rating for the highest level of professional competence and ethics. Richard is admitted to practice in Mississippi, District of Columbia, Texas, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, and Kentucky.

Richard is a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel (“IADC”), the Defense Research Institute (“DRI”), the Mississippi Bar Association, and the Illinois Bar Association.
